Liposuction has come a long way

Liposuction has come a long way since its beginnings in 1976.  With the tumescent local anesthesia technique (numbing from underneath the skin), cosmetic surgeons have had an unprecedented safety record and comfort level for the patient.  The disadvantages of using general anesthesia or IV sedation are eliminated with this method.  Patients are comfortable during and after the procedure.  Complications are infrequent and minimal.  Infection are rare, and no fatalities have been reported.  Recovery is days instead of weeks.  Patients who have had liposuction under general anesthesia and subsequently with tumescent anesthesia, alway prefer the latter.

Most of our patients who do the procedure on a Thursday, say that they can comfortably work on Monday.  Almost all drive themselves to their next day appoint and usually say that they only feel like they’ve worked out really hard. Some don’t even use the pain medications we prescribe.  Nurses, postal workers, construction guys, and lawyers have all felt ready to work by that Monday (and many worked the next day… against my advice, of course).

Here’s an example of some recent work we’ve done.  Here is her before,  immediately after, next day, 1 week and 1 month photos.  Notice the lack of bruising, and only minimal swelling.
