Everything You Need To Know About The MicroLaserPeel

Have you tried microdermabrasion or a light chemical peel, but were left feeling underwhelmed? If your results weren’t as transformative as you were hoping, we’ve got good news—the MicroLaserPeel could be exactly what you’re looking for! That’s why we’re taking a look at everything you need to know about the MicroLaserPeel treatment.

Dermatology Realm is one of the top practices in the Mid-South offering the MicroLaserPeel, an innovative laser resurfacing treatment that minimizes wrinkles, scars, and skin pigmentation. To learn more about this exciting and effective procedure, keep reading below.

What is the MicroLaserPeel? How does it differ from similar treatments?

Popular treatments like microdermabrasion and chemical peels can give you significant results, but they tend to be tougher on your skin. For instance, microdermabrasion is a procedure that involves “sanding” the skin. Chemical peels leave acid on the face for a period of time before neutralizing it. Both of these may require an anesthetic and have a longer recovery time.

In contrast, the MicroLaserPeel is performed without any needles or general anesthesia. We’ll apply a topical numbing cream to the skin before your procedure to ensure your comfort. You’ll be provided with protective eye shields, and in some cases, a very mild medication may be given to assist in complete relaxation before we begin.

The MicroLaserPeel is a gentle, laser-assisted skin peel. The handpiece is positioned above the skin, where it will be held in place as a computer-guided scanner moves the laser beam around the treatment area. The procedure normally lasts anywhere from 15-30 minutes, although this depends in part on the size of the area being treated.

Because the MicroLaserPeel does not deeply penetrate the skin, there is very little pain during or after the procedure. At the shallowest settings, many patients won’t even need the numbing cream!

What are the benefits of the MicroLaserPeel?

The MicroLaserPeel targets wrinkles, scars, and sagging skin on the face, neck, and chest for a look that’s fully rejuvenated. The instrument we use can precisely vaporize a very thin layer of skin, removing tissue that’s old and damaged. This eliminates some of the unhealthy cells that give skin a tired or aged look, such as superficial blemishes or pigment irregularities. As the skin heals, fresh cells will replace the old ones and resurface the treated area.

You’ll normally begin to see the effects of a MicroLaserPeel within three to five days. There will be some minor skin peeling at this point, but you’ll be able to resume your regular activities within a week. Areas with surface discoloration, some freckles, sun and liver spots, and very fine wrinkles will appear minimized. The tone of your skin will also improve, giving you a brighter and more radiant look!

How long does a MicroLaserPeel last?

If you take care to protect your skin from the sun, the benefits of a MicroLaserPeel can last quite a while even after a single treatment! The exact number of treatments required to achieve the desired results will vary from patient to patient. However, our team will provide you with a personalized treatment plan based on your specific needs and goals! You’ll also receive after-care advice to help you get the most out of the procedure and protect your newly rejuvenated skin. The MicroLaserPeel can be repeated at any time in the future if you’re looking for long-term maintenance.

Are any special precautions required after the MicroLaserPeel?

Immediately after your MicroLaserPeel, your skin will have something like a “frosty” appearance. Don’t worry, though—this is totally normal and is only the dehydrated skin peeling away. This will usually happen for a few days following your procedure. There may also be some redness, a sunburn-like sensation in the treated areas, and a bit of mild swelling.

As we mentioned above, you’ll be provided with detailed after-care instructions following your MicroLaserPeel in our Germantown office. These instructions are very simple and don’t require any fussy compresses or soaks! We’ll give you a cream to apply for the first few days until the peeling is complete, then schedule a follow-up appointment for you so we can review your care routine.

Your skin will be sensitive to UV light after the procedure, so make plans to avoid any direct exposure to the sun until you’ve completely healed.

Depending on the depth setting, you’ll likely feel comfortable enough to return to work within 3-4 days. That’s one reason you’ll sometimes hear the MicroLaserPeel referred to as the “weekend peel!”
