Everything You Want To Know About eMatrix Treatment

If springtime has you longing for a more youthful appearance, we’ve got great news—Dermatology Realm is now offering eMatrix skin resurfacing! This non-invasive aesthetic treatment can restore your skin’s natural beauty and glow in just 4-6 weeks by smoothing wrinkles and boosting collagen production. To find out everything you want to know about eMatrix, keep reading below!

What is eMatrix?

eMatrix, also known as sublative rejuvenation, is an exciting skin resurfacing treatment that has been FDA-cleared to tighten loose skin, reduce mild to moderate wrinkles, and improve the texture of the skin. It can also lighten acne scarring and abdominal stretch marks, tighten pores, and brighten the overall look of the skin. Because the eMatrix treatment allows for deeper penetration of the skin, it’s better able to reach the underlying areas and spur new collagen production. With this method, we can achieve the same results you’d expect with more aggressive laser treatments but with a much faster recovery time.

How does eMatrix work?

What makes eMatrix treatment truly unique is the radio frequency energy it uses and how it’s delivered. To achieve the best possible results with laser or light treatments, energy needs to be delivered beneath the surface of the skin without overheating or otherwise damaging the top layer of skin. This can be a challenge with more aggressive treatments because they tend to overheat the top layer of skin to the point of ablation, or removal, which forces new skin to develop.

In contrast, the fractionated bi-polar radio frequency eMatrix uses is able to generate intense heat that can penetrate the skin while keeping the top layer intact. At the same time, this energy reaches beneath the surface of the skin into the deeper layers where it maximizes collagen and elastin production. This results in skin that is tighter, smoother, and more refined in the treated areas.

What issues can eMatrix treat?

Here at Dermatology Realm, we use eMatrix to treat a variety of skin conditions. This includes:

  • fine lines
  • moderate wrinkles
  • acne scarring
  • age spots
  • “loose” skin texture
  • pigmentation issues

Most eMatrix patients will see an improvement in not only the appearance of their skin, but in the texture and tightness of it as well.

What to expect from an eMatrix treatment

Most patients receive a minimum of three eMatrix treatments. In some cases, more than three treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired results. We can usually maintain these results with touch-up laser treatments once a year.

The actual application of the eMatrix is painless. Some patients report feeling a warm or prickly sensation when the radio frequency penetrates the surface layer of their skin. Skin that has been treated may feel slightly sunburned following a treatment, but this is temporary and can be relieved by using a topical anesthetic ointment.

What is the recovery like with eMatrix?

There is very little downtime with eMatrix, and most patients are able to resume their daily activities immediately. There may be some mild redness and swelling for the first 48 hours, with minor dryness and flaking of the skin for 3-5 days following the procedure. This is normal and expected, but it can be treated with a mild moisturizer if it becomes bothersome. eMatrix results will continue to be seen for 3-5 months after the final treatment and can be maintained annually.

What are the benefits of treatment with eMatrix?

eMatrix treatments are considered an “all-natural” treatment for acne scarring, fine lines, and other signs of aging. This is because the treatment stimulates the regrowth of cells and boosts collagen production by heating the inside of the skin instead of the surface.  There are many other benefits to this exciting skin resurfacing option! We’ve outlined just a few of them here.

  • The self-healing process initiated by the radio frequency energy is so efficient and rapid that results can often be seen following the very first treatment session.
  • eMatrix can be used safely and effectively on all skin types, textures, and pigmentations (some skin conditions such as eczema will need to be under control first.)
  • eMatrix treatments can be combined with other cosmetic procedures.
  • Because eMatrix uses radio frequency instead of light energy, the chances of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation occurring in patients with darker skin is greatly reduced.
  • A full-face eMatrix treatment typically takes 30 minutes or less.
  • Results with last longer than similar treatments and can be further enhanced with yearly maintenance visits.
  • Downtime is generally about 48 hours, with most patients returning to their regular activities immediately following treatment.
